On a cold, dreary night in January, two Memphis Police Officers were notified that a purse had been snatched at a local grocery store earlier in the day. They were dispatched to a tiny, 2 bedroom home in North Memphis to question a man that was thought to have been involved in the theft of the purse. It was a routine call...

Officers

Officer Bobby Hester had been on the department for almost 10 years. All of that time was spent on the streets. No desk job for this officer. He liked the streets. He was even tempered and well respected by his peers. He never intended to be a cop. Circumstances change and Bobby saw an opportunity for a good job with great benefits. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He had recently bought himself a small fishing boat and was anxiously awaiting warming temperatures so that he could finally take it out and see if he could catch even more fish. He was married with no children and had a wife who supported his hobbies. Bobby worked hard and if he let off steam on the lake fishing, well, better than hanging around the bars like a lot of other cops did.

Officer Ray Schwill was Hester's partner. As mild mannered and even tempered as Hester was, Schwill was much more of a hard charger. He loved the job and couldn't wait to hit the streets. He and Hester were the perfect team. He was born to be a cop. Opposites attract and this made the relationship a good one. They played off each other quite well and got to know their strengths and weaknesses on the job. These strengths and weaknesses would tragically play out in a matter of hours. Both Officers would go through a living hell. Both would suffer inhuman treatment and only one would survive the night.
